Tell us a little about yourself:

I’m a mother of 3 and recently remarried to the man of my dreams!

What’s your eye story?

On October 1, 2017, I was a victim of a mass shooting. A man named Stephen Paddock opened fire on the crowd I was in while attending the Route 91 Harvest music festival on the Las Vegas Strip in Nevada. Both of my eyes were impaired from shrapnel and I was told I would never see again. I did in fact end up losing my left eye, but not my right. I am able to see 20/25 while wearing a scleral hard lens. I have also had to undergo 7 reconstruction surgeries on my left eye before I was able to receive the prosthetic I now wear today.

What has been the most challenging mentally?

Not being able to have as much independence as I used to.

What has been the most challenging physically?

Getting stared at by my children’s school friends and asked my kids what was wrong with me.

Where are you now in your recovery?

I now have had all the surgeries on my left eye I plan to have. I’m just trying to enjoy my life now.

What advice would you give to someone going through their eye impairment journey?

I can still say everything happens for a reason. My faith and my challenges have made me into the strong person I am today and I am thankful.

Who is your eye surgeon and ocularist?

I see many Drs in the inland eye. Larsen did my prosthetic
