Where are you from and live now? Mississippi
Tell us a little about yourself:
After 35 years of working as a high-voltage lineman, I made the decision to retire at 55 years old. I did however eventually return to the workforce and am now a heavy equipment operator. I also love making leather eye patches in my free time.
What’s your eye story?
While turning a bowl on a wood lathe, the tenon on the bowl broke free causing the bowl to travel 10 ft across the shop and hit me between the eyes. I sustained skull and facial injuries, including a severed optic nerve in my right eye and the loss of my taste and smell.
What has been the most challenging mentally?
Learning to cope with no depth perception.
What has been the most challenging physically?
Walking over unfamiliar terrain.
Where are you now in your recovery?
Recovery will be a long, slow process, but I'm getting used to the "new normal".
What advice would you give to someone going through their eye impairment journey?
Never give up. Keep fighting.
Who is your eye surgeon and ocularist?
Gabriella Szatmary M.D., Ph.D.
How did you find EYEHESIVE?

*Steven also makes really cool leather eye patches. Reach out to him on Facebook or Instagram if you are interested in one of the eye patches he makes.
