What’s your eye story?
In late 2019, I punctured my eye with a metal wire from a pop-up laundry hamper.
What has been the most challenging mentally?
I am a bit traumatized by what happened to my eye. People ask me a lot of questions about it and they can be difficult for me to answer.
As a parent, you do all that is in your power to love and protect your children. The biggest hurdle I've experienced in this journey has been forgiving myself and realizing I cannot change what happened. As the mama to this amazing young man, I have learned how to be brave. - Alexis (Mom)
What has been the most challenging physically?
I am blind in my left eye, which interferes with my line of sight and avoids objects that are in the way.
Where are you now in your recovery?
I don't have pain, and I might look for a shell.
He has had a pars planar removal of the traumatic cataract, a repair of a corneal laceration, and an attempted repair of a funneled retina. He has just started middle school and is thriving despite hurdles with bullying. - Alexis (Mom)
What advice would you give to someone going through their eye impairment journey? You'll get used to it after a while!

I am currently looking for an ocularist in Maryland.
